Canelo told Cotto some words before the Puerto Rican boxing legend makes his final appearance in the ring at MSG.

Memories and nostalgia will be in the air tonight in New York’s Madison Square Garden as Miguel Cotto makes what will be his 10th and final appearance as a professional at the iconic venue.

A career that will forever be remembered fondly by fight fans as a fighter who fought the best opposition available to him of his era, winning world titles in multiple weight classes and always doing so with class and pride.

Never one to engage in trash talk.

In many ways Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto is an old school warrior. A throwback to a time where fighters did their talking in the ring with their fists.

A former opponent of his and the new star in world boxing Canelo Alvarez of Mexico in similarly tries to follow Cotto’s example outside the ring.

Speaking ahead of his old rival’s final fight in the ring tonight, Canelo said:

“Miguel Cotto, I just wanted to wish you success in your fight. I know that it is the last fight in an extraordinary career. I think you did a lot for the sport of boxing. I wish you success in your life after you retire.”

He added:

“Now it’s your time to enjoy everything you did for the sport of boxing and everything that boxing has given to you. Personally, it was an honor to be in the ring with you. I learned a lot from the fight. It was an honor and I wish you all the success in the world in your retirement.”
