Canelo Alvarez receives a blessing from the Pope on his trip to the Vatican while part of a trip to Italy at the moment.

The boxing star has been on a trip to Italy the last few days where he has been pictured in Rome as part of a break from the sport of boxing.

Canelo, a devout Christian, had the chance to meet the Pope Francis who is the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church who resides in the Vatican city.

He said on Instagram (English translation):

“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to share time with our Pope Francisco.”

The young Mexican boxing star last fought in September when he drew with Gennady Golovkin in their world middleweight title fight in Las Vegas.

Negotiations are currently ongoing for the rematch with next May on Cinco De Mayo weekend favored for when it will take place, with the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas once again the main contender that is being linked with hosting the contest.

Canelo holds a professional boxing record of 49-1-2-34KO following the Golovkin fight last September.
