Eddie Hearn Responds To Haye Injury Report Ahead Of Bellew Rematch

Eddie Hearn responds

Promoter Eddie Hearn responds to reports that David Haye is on the brink of pulling out of Tony Bellew rematch.

The rumor mill in boxing tends to go into overdrive before big fights with reports of fighters getting injured sometimes proving to be true, sometimes proving to be not.

A widespread report across the weekend in boxing heard that David Haye had suffered an injury that would likely force him to pull out of the December 17th rematch with Tony Bellew at the O2 Arena in London.

The pair fought earlier this year last March when Bellew upset the odds to stop Haye inside the distance for one of the biggest upsets in boxing of 2017 so far.

Haye suffered an injury which was reported to have come up again but speaking to James Helder of IFL TV, promoter of Eddie Hearn confirmed there was no truth in the rumors at all:

“I said to Tony Bellew – it’s probably they’ve leaked that, because that’s the sort of thing they do (Haye’s mind games).  When that broke I had spoke to a member of his team about the under card about an hour before. I know he was training yesterday morning with corporate day for Park Plaza, training fine. So I was a bit taking back by it. So I spoke to the team and they said absolutely no problem.”

He added:

“Then Sky then spoke to David Haye and said – oh we’ve seen this and he said – absolutely not true. I’m 100% ready to go December 17th. It’s on.”

Even if Haye did have a slight niggle he was carrying ahead of December 17th, this is nothing new and something that professional boxers have to contend with on a regular basis.

He also has well over a month to get 100% ready and no weight to make with the bout being at heavyweight – so would have had ample time to recover from a niggle, if that were the case.
