Anything less than a GGG rematch with Canelo would likely disgust boxing fans but De La Hoya can’t rule it out.

Next year’s Cinco De Mayo weekend has been reserved for a GGG rematch with Canelo Alvarez by the powers that be.

But, speaking to a group of reporters at an open event, De La Hoya admitted:

“Negotiations are slow.”

It’s hard to see how a GGG rematch for Canelo couldn’t be next up though.

Particularly given the controversial nature of the first fight and the fact it did so well on pay per view.

The GGG rematch against Canelo is the only fight out there at middleweight that fans want to see both fighter in next, and by far earns both boxer the most money compared to any other fight.

But, speaking to a group of reporters promoter of Canelo – Oscar De La Hoya did name three alternative fighters if the rematch cannot be made:

One suspects that the above scenario can’t happen though, surely.

Boxing fans are demanding the rematch in their droves and with 2018 set to be another massive year for the sport, it only makes logical sense for it to happen.
