Hearn Hits Back At Wilder’s Drug Cheat Accusation Of Anthony Joshua

Promoter Eddie Hearn responds passionately to accusation of Anthony Joshua juicing by American Deontay Wilder.

Following Deontay Wilder’s successful defence of his heavyweight title this past weekend in New York he took to the podium in his post-fight press conference to call his UK rival Anthony Joshua out.

As part of what he said after his fight, at one point he referred to Anthony Joshua’s nickname ‘AJ’ as ‘Anthony Juiceua’.

This has incensed his promoter Eddie Hearn who has come out swinging verbally in defence of his fighter and has questioned amongst other things, how many people represent Deontay Wilder.

Speaking on ‘Tha Boxing Voice’, Hearn responded to the term ‘Anthony Juiceua’ by saying:

“Because again, it’s just a way for him to try to get some exposure. There is not a heavyweight in he planet or probably a boxer, but lets say a heavyweight, that gets tested as much as Anthony Joshua.”

He continued:

“One thing we have in the UK and that the fact that this is not introduced in America is quiet frankly disgusting, we have universal nationwide testing for boxers. Random testing for every fighter with a British Boxing Board of Control boxing license.”

He added:

“In the last camp Anthony Joshua was tested 14 times over a 12 week period. 14 times!”

The topic of doping in boxing seems to be in the media a lot at the moment following a number of high profile failed tests this year alone.

Both the WBC and WBA have made efforts from a governing body level to introduce random testing policies – in a bid to clean up any cheating that might be going on in the sport.

Time will tell what results they achieve.
