Anthony Joshua Promoter Jabs Deontay Wilder Over Value Perception

Anthony Joshua promoter Hearn reacts to being asked how hard the Deontay Wilder fight will be to get made.

Big fights are seldom ever made easily. Certainly if boxing history teaches us anything.

Money talks and usually the fighter who is the perceived ‘A-Side’ of negotiations dictates where and when, so to speak.

One thing is for certain in the current heavyweight division at the moment – Anthony Joshua is the main star in the weight category

The WBA (Super), IBF and IBO champion knows it. His promoter knows it. Everyone else in the division knows it.

Fighting Anthony Joshua has become a massive payday for those who get in the ring with him and one suspects that his handlers will be using this to every advantage when negotiating with other champions moving forward.

After Anthony Joshua’s fight with Carlos Takam at the weekend, Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn took a swipe at Deontay Wilder in the post-fight presser saying:

“There’s nothing straight forward about a heavyweight unification fight. Especially when someone (Deontay Wilder) is not going to like the reality of what they are worth.”

Joshua’s trainer Rob McCracken when asked about the Wilder bout added his thoughts by mentioning:

“I think both (Wilder and Joseph Parker) are winnable fights for Anthony. Anthony’s unified champion in my eyes. It will be a bigger fighter with Wilder down the road than it is right now I presume.”

Whether or not we see the fight in 2018 remains to be seen. It’s definitely a big fight.

One that would bring together both sides of the pond, too.
