WBC Heavyweight champion of the world Deontay Wilder gets a step in opponent after a ruling was made by the WBC.

The fight between Deontay Wilder and Luis Ortiz has been up in the air over the last week or so since the WBC president tweeted that he received news from VADA that Ortiz tested positive for a banned substance per their ‘Clean Boxing Program’.

Team Ortiz responded saying this was due to legitimate, blood pressure medication that the challenger had been prescribed by a doctor.

This now however does not look to have been enough for the World Boxing Council.

The WBC have confirmed a short time ago that instead, on November 4th, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will face Bermane Stiverne in a rematch.

Wilder originally won his WBC belt off Stiverne back in 2015 after a hard fought unanimous decision, where Wilder’s chin was perhaps tested its hardest to date.

Since then Wilder has put together five wins in a row. Stiverne has only boxed once since then, a unanimous points decision victory in 2015 against Derric Rossy.

The rematch will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on November 4th on a card that will have a strong undercard.
