Mairis Briedis and Mike Perez will fight tomorrow night at the Arena Riga in Riga, Latvia.

Undefeated hometown man Briedis (22-0-18KO) will have his native Latvian backing cheering him on, but Cork-based Cuban Mike Perez will have both the thoughts of the Irish and Cubans behind him too.

In many ways it’s an intriguing fight.

Breidis might be the perceived favorite with the bookmakers but don’t be fooled by that. He will have his hands full with Mike ‘The Rebel’ Perez.

Perez who used to be a heavyweight has looked a man transformed since making the jump down to the cruiserweight limit.

This fresh attitude and renewed sense of hunger is a dangerous combination of mental attributes that Breidis needs to be weary of in themselves.

After a dark period for Perez a few years back, at 31 the case could be argued that he’s now actually in his prime.

He’s always had the ability and now with the conditioning to match, expect a cracking fight this weekend in Latvia at the World Boxing Super Series.
