UK Promoter Aims To Take Over Boxing In The USA

UK Promoter Eddie Hearn has laid down the gauntlet to his American rivals as the Englishman mounts assault on the American boxing landscape.

British promoter Eddie Hearn had mentioned a few months back that his company Matchroom Sport, who have been responsible for promoting stadium fights in the UK in recent years with attendances of 80,000 and 90,000 for bxing events, had been planning to open a US office for boxing in the near future.

He broke that news in a more official manner tonight, with a US boxing logo for his firm in particular:

What wasn’t as subtle however was what he told one Twitter user on his plans, clearing stating his ambition to take over in the US boxing market:

Notable fights Hearn and Matchroom have promoted in recent years include the two fights at Wembley stadium that did the above record numbers.

Those were the Carl Froch vs George Groves rematch and more recently the heavyweight title fight last April between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko.

It will be interesting to see if similar large events, hype and numbers for boxing can be replicated in venues in America.

Surely the more competition – the better for boxing.
