According to Forbes, just under three million people in the US alone streamed Mayweather vs McGregor with the main sources of the streams according to the research coming from Facebook, YouTube, Periscope, Twitch and streaming websites.

The broadcasters of the event Showtime beforehand sought court injunctions to stop certain websites from streaming the pay per view event but according to the report – they were not as successful in doing so as the organisers of the Mayweather vs Pacquiao back in 2015 were.

The reality of online streaming has been here for a number of years now with more and more social media outlets and websites popping up every year that facilitate it.

The battle between rights holders and streamers continues to wage on with the streamers seemingly unable to be stopped such is the advent and power of changing technology platforms that allow for it.
