Adrien The Problem Broner, Welcome To The Layer Cake

Adrien The Problem Broner is now in a state of career limbo after a career that once promised so much early on.

From the hit movie ‘The Layer Cake’ (2004):

“Eddie Temple: You’re born, you take s***. You get out in the world, you take more s***. You climb a little higher, you take less s***. Until one day you’re so far up in the rarefied atmosphere and you’ve forgotten what s*** even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake, son.”

Here’s the scene:

Last Saturday night Adrien The Problem Broner discovered exactly what the boxing layer cake is all about at the Barclays Center in new York.

There’s levels to boxing. He is about a billion miles away from the rarefied atmosphere of the boxing elite at this present moment.

Garcia (37-0-30KO) dominated the former 4-weight champion and let’s be honest, Garcia schooled Broner on his way to a unanimous decision in front of a 12 thousand plus crowd and in doing so he announced his arrival as a genuine boxing pound for pound force.

As boxing performances go, it was an impressive display by the reigning lightweight titleholder.

Especially considering he was moving up to junior welterweight against a fighter some believed would be too big and strong.

The scores on the night were 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112.

The figures are hard to disagree with – I personally had it 117-111 In favour of the 29-year-old from Oxnard.

Garcia’s ability to cut off the ring  at times bordered on a thing of  beauty, especially when working  behind the jab.

One can only feel Garcia is a masterpiece in progress with only a few fine brush strokes needed here and there to create the finished article.

Whereas as Adrien The Problem Broner is a piece of boxing work in need of  major restoration.

Welcome to the layer cake that is boxing.
