David Haye Appoints New Trainer and Releases Statement

David Haye appoints a new head coach following parting company with trainer Shane McGuigan earlier in 2017.

Former heavyweight champion of the world David Haye has formally announced his new trainer ahead of an expected comeback before the end of the year.

Haye, who last competed back in March against Tony Bellew, was stopped in the fight and required extensive surgery following the contest.

Both Haye and former trainer Shane McGuigan mutually parted company following the bout.

Now the Londoner has released the following picture of him and his new trainer on Instagram with the following statement:

“World Renowned Boxing Coach Ismael Salas joins forces with David Haye as new Head Coach. Former Unified Cruiserweight and WBA Heavyweight World Champion David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye has today announced that he will be joining forces with highly decorated Boxing coach Ismael Salas. Haye explained, “I am thrilled to welcome Salas, whom I have known for a number of years, into my team as head coach. I have huge respect for what he has achieved on the World stage, and place huge value on what he can bring to my armoury. I am determined to not only get back on the main stage of the Heavyweight division, but to be better than ever, with a renewed skill set to recapture World Titles.” 60-year-old Salas has lead the corner of no less than 19 World Champions. His stable has included some of the greatest skilled fighters ever in both amateur and professional boxing. Within the amateur’s he lead the corner for a number of Olympic stars including two-weight World Champion and Olympic Champion, Joel Casamayor Johnson, as well as three-time Olympic and six-time World Champion Felix Savon, whose success has unquestionably cemented him as a legend in the amateur ranks. Salas’ professional success includes; WBA super-bantamweight World Champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, former unified featherweight World Champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, former four-weight World Champion Nonito Donaire, former two-weight World Champion Jessie Vargas and super-welterweight World Champion Erislandy Lara to name just a few. And he is the current coach of Ring Magazine and unified lightweight World Champion Jorge Linares, who has based himself in London for the foreseeable future. Salas explains, “Naturally, I have followed David’s comeback with great interest, he is a proven world class talent in an incredibly exciting division. Boxing fans want to see him back in the biggest shows hunting World Titles and that is exactly where I believe he belongs. David is in great shape, he was clearly very focused on his rehabilitation and this has proved key to his recovery.
