Nobody had ever even heard the name Julius Indongo until his sensational first round (first minute) KO of Russian hardman Eduard Troyanofsky back in December, becoming a world champion in the process.

It was an astonishing shot and quickly found its way circulating online amongst the boxing community – Julius Indongo had defiantly smashed his way onto the map:

Now, thanks to his new found notoriety he has the opportunity to add a third belt to his collection, facing off against Scottish veteran Ricky Burns in Glasgow this Saturday night.

Burns will be, without question, backed buy the thousands upon thousands of his countrymen and women who turn out to offer their support every time he fights at home.

The pro-Burns crowd were never going to be offering the travelling Namibian any words of encouragement this weekend, but now he may have landed himself in even hotter water with the Scottish faithful.

Speaking to Sky Sports News at the public workout for the fight, when asked about the accomplishments of his opponent the overnight knockout star was quick to question Burns’ legitimacy as a multiple-time world champion:

“He got those victories because of his encouragement and maybe also his promotion. But, being an African, chances like this don’t come easy. Maybe if I was here I’d have more than him.”

Strong words from a man who seemingly believes the financial disadvantages of his homeland may have held him back.

Considering some of the greatest legends in this sport rose from complete poverty and international obscurity (Pacquiao, Duran) and never had the notion to complain about a lack of opportunity, perhaps it’s best if Indongo keep his thoughts on the matter to himself.

But, make no mistake, come Saturday night he will have no viable excuses if he finds himself in trouble against ‘The Rickster’.
