Tyson Fury Coy On Comeback Date and Return To Boxing In 2017

Tyson Fury Coy

Tyson Fury coy about a much speculated return to the ring in 2017 following the Ring Magazine heavyweight champion’s well documented troubles in 2016.

It was a year that saw Fury vacate his belts and not box at all, having the year before captured the lineal heavyweight title famously in November 2015 from former long reigning champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Since then we’ve head from both Fury and his team that return to the ring in 2017 is imminent but as of yet nothing official has been confirmed.

Speaking to Steve Lillis of BoxNation today Fury said of his plans:

“Well, lets just say big Popa never reveals. But you never can tell can ya (smiling).”

The big man from Manchester does seem a fair bit overweight in terms of fight shape at the moment, so an immediate return is some way off just yet one would have thought.

Having said that, Fury alongside his uncle and trainer Peter Fury have proven in the past that Tyson can take the weight off fairly quick once he gets stuck into training.

As dedicated as any boxer when he get’s going in a fight camp as any. It’s the blowing up in between fights where he really piles on the pounds.

Possible return opponents will be interesting to see for Tyson too, as I doubt we’ll see him in there immediately with any of the big names given such an extended break.

His cousin Hughie competes soon for a belt (WBO) Tyson last year, held when Hughie challenges Joseph Parker in New Zealand.

One would suspect Tyson will not want to face his cousin in the future so that leaves the WBC, WBA and IBF routes instead.

Two of which are going to be competed for next month by Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua. The other held by American Deontay Wilder could be defended again as soon as the summer.

Expect Fury to target someone in the rankings of those three governing bodies’ I reckon. For the full interview on BoxNation YouTube above check it out here:
