Freddie Roach Speaks On What Really Happened In Spence Broner Sparring Session

Trainer Freddie Roach speaks on the real Spence Broner sparring story as a third party neutral who saw it.

Sparring is sparring and stories emanating from that of behind closed doors, between two fighters, in a private gym are probably best left there.

But alas, they never do.

Especially when they involve top level professional fighters of the calibre of Errol Spence Jr and Adrien Broner.

Broner is the more experienced and accomplished of the two to date, but the young Spence is being tipped for big things in America at the moment.

The original Spence Broner sparring session tale in Spence Jr’s words went along the lines that he stopped Broner during the session back in 2015.

While others even said that Spence made Broner cry at the time.

One impartial spectator at the time however and who happens to be one of the most respected trainers in the game, Freddie Roach, has told his version of events this week in a conversation with members of the media in a scrum:

“Spence didn’t knock him (Broner) out. He was on his feet but he didn’t know where he was for a moment. He was a little wobbly but he didn’t go down. He wanted to finish the sparring session so badly he refused to get out of the ring. Then nobody could use the ring for like an hour because he was arguing with the coaches.”

A fight between the two at some stage down the line could potentially build into something big. Certainly an entertaining one too given the buckets of skill and punching power both guys possess.

Spence faces Kell Brook for the IBF world title this May in the UK next up. Broner is currently on the re-building track for his career after a rough 2016.
