Canelo vs Chavez Jr To Be Aired In Cinemas

Canelo vs Chavez Jr lands an early big punch for viewers with something usually reserved just for mega fights.

Clearly the fight’s promoters expect this all Mexican battle to be a massive hit with fans. They’ve pulled out all the stops to get Canelo vs Chavez Jr on the big screen on May 6th.

According to today’s announcement, the fight will be shown across cinemas in the US with a full list to be announced on the Fathom Events website of what cinemas will be showing the grudge match.

This information will be known April 7th.

Usually for a big pay per view fight to be shown in cinemas in the US, it really has to be a big one.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao and Mayweather vs De La Hoya are fights the spring to mind in recent history for me at least that have been shown in cinemas.

Fight promoters Golden Boy must be confident of this pay per view, despite the pay per view model in the US seemingly in decline across a lot of sports.

Last week it was reported that Gennady Golovkin vs Danny Jacobs did approximately 170,000 buys on pay per view for their match in Madison Square Garden in New York.

The fight did compete with a number of big sports events on the night which could have hampered it in this regard.

Canelo and Chavez Jr however are big stars in both Mexico and in the US, with the large Hispanic market that exists in the US.

Canelo has a proven ability to bring out the fans, as does Chavez. This coupled with their exciting fight styles and genuine dislike for one another promises for fireworks.
