Tony Bellew Laughs Off Dillian Whyte Fight Idea

Tony Bellew laughs off the recent call out from heavyweight Dillian Whyte for a showdown between the two men later in 2017.

Tony Bellew has laughed off the idea entirely of facing Dillian Whyte in another all British heavyweight clash.

Whyte recently called out the WBC Cruiserweight World Champion during an interview with Sky Sports where the Jamaican born fighter accused Bellew of looking sluggish against a one legged Haye.

“If he is struggling to knock out a one-legged man, how is he going to knockout a true heavyweight who always shows up to fight? If he wants to stay at heavyweight, he needs to prove to me and the world that he’s a natural heavyweight. I would knock Tony Bellew out in the first six rounds.”

Bellew was then speaking to Fight Hype on Saturday night after the Jorge Linares vs Anthony Crolla WBA lightweight title fight at the Manchester Arena.

He indicated that he was not at all considering Whyte as a realistic future opponent.

Bellew has repeatedly claimed that in defeating David Haye, he has beaten the best heavyweight boxer in the world outside of the current champions.

He therefore does not see the need to lower himself to fight someone who has been knocked out in a British title clash it appears by Bellew’s remarks.

It is looking most likely that Bellew and his promoter Eddie Hearn will seek to bring the WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder to the UK for a big money fight next.

A match where Bellew will attempt to do what previously seemed unthinkable and become heavyweight champion barely 12 months after securing the cruiserweight belt.

Whether that becomes a reality or not remains to be seen, but the former Rocky movie star must be feeling like he’s in a movie again with all the opportunities coming his way recently.

Here is the video of Bellew’s interview with Fight Hype YouTube where he touched on the Dillian Whyte subject (hat tip):
