Astonishing How The World’s Best Boxer Still Doesn’t Get Recognition He Deserves

The pound for pound best boxer on Earth returns to action this weekend on the same weekend of Gennady Golovkin vs Daniel Jacobs, and Irish man Mick Conlan’s debut. But not many seem to even know that he’s boxing.

4-weight world champion from Nicaragua Roman Gonzalez competes on the same card as his promotional stablemate Golovkin at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

It will be the pound for pound number one’s first fight since his trainer was sadly pronounced brain dead last November.

‘Chocolatito’ will solider on this St.Patrick’s Day in his honor no doubt, and will look to continue the great fighting tradition of fellow countrymen like Alexis Arguello.

One of boxing’s all time greats. It turns out the above nickname was given to Gonzalez by Arguello no less.

Ahead of this weekend’s fight the folks at HBO YouTube have brought out this outstanding pre-fight feature on Roman Gonzalez that explains it and much more:

A truly exceptional watch.

Hats off to HBO on the effort and production there on telling the story of a man who still, to this day, doesn’t seem to get the widespread recognition his talents deserve.

At least outside of the boxing world.

This weekend he takes on Wisaksil Wangek at Madison Square Garden as he bids to go 47-0 and take one step closer to Floyd Mayweather and Rocky Marciano’s undefeated records of 49-0.
