The World Boxing Council have ordered a second fight between Deontay Wilder vs Bermane Stiverne.
This will not be the fight fans want Wilder to be in next up in truth, as many had hoped he would be in a big showdown next up or unification against one of the other champions in the summer.
We spoke to his promoter Lou DiBella after his latest win this weekend who mentioned Wilder made very clear in the ring that it’s the world title unifications that he wanted next.
But would he risk losing his WBC world title belt for not fulfilling mandatory obligations by the organization?
Very unlikely.
The WBC’s president Mauricio Sulaiman had this to say not long after Wilder’s latest defence this past weekend:
Some fans have questioned how Stiverne is mandatory challenger in the first place.
But it is what it is.
The two originally fought back in January 2015 when Wilder won a unanimous decision.
Following his fight this weekend the WBC champion was involved in this controversial story, where rival American heavyweight Dominic Breazeale claimed Wilder and a mob of people attacked him and his team in front of his wife and kids in a hotel lobby.

While the WBC have ordered the above mandatory, it is also important to note that mandatory title fights have been bypassed in boxing’s past if a champion can get a unification bout agreed with one of the other world champions.
