Thomas Hearns Has Street Named After Him

‘The Hitman’ Thomas Hearns has been given a prestigious honor in the city that made him become the boxing legend that he is today.

Indeed, he’s been given similar honors in the past, but this marks the latest one in Detroit.

Thomas Hearns was part of the famous Kronk Gym in Detroit, Michigan – training under the legendary Emanuel Stewart (rest in peace).

A boxing gym as steeped in tradition as anywhere in the world, let alone the United States.

Detroit has paid tribute to Thomas Hearns with naming a street after him recently – which Tommy highlighted on his Instagram account here:

Hearns was part of a Golden Era of boxing that included the likes of him, ‘Marvellous’ Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran and many more.

He is still regarded as one of the pound for pound most explosive punching boxers of all time.

A man who could turn his opponent’ lights out with one deadly blow, with either fist.

During his era Hearns became the first four-weight world champion in pro boxing at the time, capturing titles at welterweight, super-welterweight, middleweight and light-heavyweight.

Still to this day many consider the fight Thomas Hearns was involved in with Marvin Hagler as the most entertaining boxing match in the history of the sport.

When he retired Thomas Hearns had amassed a professional boxing record of 61-5-1 (48KO).
