Boxer Kid Galahad Proclaims Invincibility – “I will retire undefeated.”

It’s safe to say British boxing is on a roll as of late.

Despite major world championship losses in the forms of Anthony Crolla and most recently Carl Frampton the country is still a major player, if not the major player in terms of international success and future potential.

Many overseas may be unfamiliar with this gentleman in particular, but one of the young British stars who is as of yet to realise his full potential is Kid Galahad.

During the very earliest days of his boxing growth many insiders on the UK boxing scene had tapped Galahad to be the next superstar to be produced from these shores.

His slick speed, unconventional style and natural charisma certainly made him one to watch, with many believing he would fill the shoes of Britain’s last great outspoken featherweight export Prince Naseem Hamed.

However, as is sadly the case in the careers of many young potential greats seeking fame and glory, Galahad, real name Abdul-Bari Awad, tested positive for an anabolic steroid and was banned from the professional ranks for two years just after vacating his European Title to move up to world level.

Galahad has always professed his innocence believing himself to be the victim of a cruel, family-feud fuelled double-cross.

Two years later Galahad has once again donned the gloves and boots, picking up where he left off, with three convincing early stoppage finishes in 2016 maintaining his undefeated record.

A record, he claims, will be with him until the day he walks away when speaking to ITV:

“I can see myself retiring undefeated because nobody is going to find a way to beat me. It can’t be done. I know I’m the best out there.”

Strong words from a man who is yet to face a household name but, considering his strong ability and his high standing with those in the British boxing community, can you really blame the man for being overly confident at this point?

Galahad is scheduled to face Joseph Agbeko on the Eubank Jr/Quinlan undercard on ITV Box Office.

Agbeko, a tough customer in his own right, once survived twelve rounds against pound-for-pound superstar Guillermo Rigondeaux and held his own twice with a ferocious Abner Mares – all clear evidence of the man’s durability, yet Galahad is confident of a stoppage victory he also told ITV:

“When I stop Agbeko all the other featherweights in the world will know who they are dealing with.”

Whatever your opinion on the man’s experience at world level we could be in for some classic bouts in the coming months and years from the man who named himself after ‘The King’.

Galahad/Agbeko will be live on ITV Box Office in the UK on February 4th.
