This one is no doubt going to cause a bit of controversy for the man they call ‘Mystic Mac’.
Over only the last three years since or so Conor McGregor first signed to the UFC, he has taken both the sport of mixed martial arts and world entertainment by storm.
His willingness to speak his mind, give sound bites to reporters and back up his words in the cage have seen him sky rocket to a level in fame perhaps in a shorter period of time than any other athlete in history.
So much so that fighters in different sports have called him out or expressed interest in a match with him, notably famous boxers like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.
But make no mistake, it’s Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather that’s on the Irish UFC star’s mind and the one he wants.
As it is for Mayweather.
Speaking in Manchester at a pay per view interview event hosted by respected MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, the topic of Floyd Mayweather inevitably came up.
It’s something that both he and Mayweather have now acknowledged that is the only fight they are interested in.
The buzz surrounding the potential fight around the world is something quite unique, and that interest and controversy just want up a notch based on this.
McGregor on Mayweather:
“My fist is bigger than his head! Seriously, he’s a malteser with eyeballs! I know every single shot he’s been hit with. I know every single shot he’s been hurt with. I know southpaws have caused him a hell of a lot of trouble. I don’t care what rule set it’s under. Most people don’t know s*** about fighting. I’m going to teach him about true fighting and that’s it. I land one anywhere on the dome, he’s going to know about it.”
Well, there you have it.
There is no doubt that some of the above comments will be taken many ways by people over the world.
Not for the first time, the polarizing Irishman will have to deal with some heat over his actions.
But the show goes on as they say.
When this gargantuan combat sports show does get made, expect the most intensive s*** talking you’ve ever seen in your life.
The hype show rolls on but I think it’s fair to say as we start of 2017, this fight will more than likely happen by the end of the year – if not early 2018 at the latest.
Something that not many would have thought had a chance of becoming a reality at points during 2016.
