Fallout and Backlash From Angel Garcia Controversy Continues

Angel Garcia controversy isn’t something new, but it appears recent remarks at a press conference have finally crossed the line with people in the boxing world.

The colourful father and trainer to welterweight world champion Danny Garcia has always sounded off at press conferences and acted as a bit of an unofficial promoter for his son, so to speak.

Never a man afraid of speaking his mind.

But last week at a press conference for his son’s upcoming world title unification showdown with Keith Thurman things went over the edge in many people’s view.

The original incident and comments are available to view here – as the Angel Garcia controversy rages on (hat tip and credit Fight Hype YouTube):

A chaotic scene that included some choice language and words indeed from Angel Garcia.

Dan Rafael of ESPN have reported this week that the fight’s organisers have agreed that Garcia will not be allowed to have the microphone anymore in the lead up to the event.

The WBC (World Boxing Council) of who’s belt will be on the line released the following statement following Angel Garcia’s comments:

It is not yet known if Angel Garcia will face any disciplinary action from the Athletic Commission regulating the fight.

The bout between Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman is set for March 4th at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.

Both the WBC and WBA (Super) welterweight world titles will be on the line and will be shown live on Showtime pay per view as part of a Premier Boxing Champions telecast.

Both men come into the fight with undefeated records, genuine knockout power and in the prime of their fighting careers.

It’s not often you get to see all those components combined with a fight also being a world unification to boot.

The winner (alongside Errol Spence Jr) will likely be considered the best 147lbs fighter on the planet, with IBF champion Kell Brook likely to move up in weight in the immediate future.
