David Haye Richard Schaefer Promotional Pact Formed

Former heavyweight champion of the world and long-time respected promotional operator Richard Schaefer have formed a new alliance in the sport of boxing.

During the week we received an email informing us that David Haye had some big news this week at a press conference in the UK.

Well, now it looks like everyone knows what that news is.

Journalist Gavin Glicksman has been the first to break the news on Twitter today.

He stated that the pair have created a new promotional company together called Haymaker Ringstar Promotions.

On first impressions, it appears to be a separate entity from both existing companies the two men already own, Hayemaker and Ringstar, with this appearing to be a new collaboration company.

Anyone who knows the boxing business even remotely will tell you that Schaefer behind the scenes has been one of the dominant forces in the promotional world over the last decade.

As former CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, he ran one of the biggest promotional companies in the world alongside Oscar De La Hoya.

But he was widely credited as the man behind the scenes pulling the strings and making things happen, as it were.

At his peak, Schaefer played a significant part in promoting many of the record shattering Floyd Mayweather fights over the years – that often were promoted by Golden Boy.

The move from Haye’s side appears to be a very tactical one. Particularly as he comes to the final chapter of his active fighting career.

At today’s pres conference announcing the new deal with Schaefer, Haye also stated he has about five or six fights left in the ring before he makes the move to become a full-time boxing promoter.

Haye’s next scheduled bout is against Tony Bellew on March 4th at London’s 02 Arena.

It will be a heavyweight fight shown on Sky PPV in the UK and Ireland.

Since returning from a three and a half year layoff last year Haye has won two professional boxing contests in 2016, with Bellew being the first notable opponent he has faced since 2012.

On that occasion he stopped Englishman Dereck Chisora inside the distance at West Ham’s stadium Upton Park in London, UK.
