Canelo vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Could Be Possible For 2017

Would people watch a Canelo vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr? Check. But would people prefer Canelo vs Golovkin? Also check, one would suspect.

But a possible Canelo vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fight in early 2017 could be in play according to rumours coming out of this year’s WBC convention.

It has been mooted that a possible catch weight scenario could occur early in the year for a possible fight between the two to happen.

Canelo has long campaigned as a junior-middleweight up until recently, but one would imagine for a fight to take place against Chavez Jr he would need to even go beyond the middleweight limit that he has done in 2016.

Chavez Jr has always had problems boiling down to make 160lbs and with Canelo being the much bigger name and pay per view attraction as of 2016, you’d think he would be the one calling the shots in negotiations on the weight.

But perhaps his promoters feel like their man could beat Chavez Jr at any weight, and there is no denying how much of a hit the fight would be with the Mexican fans both in Mexico and in the States.

It would be an easy sell really, and if Golovkin is going to be fighting Danny Jacobs also in early 2017, both fights for Canelo and Golovkin would be considerable warm up fights (to say the least) to then set the stage for a huge event in September – which is the month been aimed at by promoter Oscar De La Hoya.
