Andre Ward vs GGG at Super-Middleweight – Who Would Win?

Andre Ward scored the biggest victory of his illustrious career on Nov. 19 in Las Vegas when he out pointed Sergey Kovalev to become the unified WBA, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight champion in Las Vegas.

(Full fight report of Ward vs Kovalev available here)

According to Kovalev’s team, who felt as if they had done enough to win the bout, a rematch clause was in the contract, which means the two will likely lock horns again in 2017.

Ward initially said that he’d be willing to give “Krusher” a rematch, but it’s unclear what lies ahead for the former Olympian, which gives us the opportunity to fantasize a bit.

There are very few potential fights more intriguing than a bout between Ward and reigning WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

An Andre Ward vs GGG bout was rumored to be a possibility when Ward was competing at super -middleweight.

Ward had even said not long ago that his team had made an offer to the Kazakh knockout artist to get the fight on but alas, it didn’t happen.

While it hasn’t materialized yet, the bout could one day come to fruition given the fact that Golovkin has a difficult time finding opponents at 160-pounds to put it mildly.

“GGG”, who is hoping to finally square off with Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at some point next year in 2017, is riding an incredibly impressive 36 fight win streak that includes a terrifying 23 straight knockout victories on the trot.

(While Andre Ward vs GGG would be a brilliant fight – here’s another one fans would love to see)

Andre Ward vs GGG
The fight everyone wants to see in 2017

He most recently stopped Kell Brook in the fifth round of their September 10th bout in London. Ward, on the other hand, was inactive for some time prior to 2016 due to various reasons.

Since the start of the year, however, he has fought three times including decision victories over Sullivan Barrera, Alexander Brand, and of course most recently over light-heavyweight big hitter Sergey Kovalev.

Not only are Ward and Golovkin two of the very best boxers on the planet, but they both possess very unique styles that would provide for an incredibly interesting contest on a number of fronts in my opinion.

Golovkin is obviously known for his devastating power, while Ward is more of a technically sound boxer, although he does have some pop on his punches too.

Being the bigger man in a potential fight with Golovkin it would be interesting to see how Golovkin’s power would transfer at a higher weight class.

“SOG” also proved that he can compete with power punchers in his bout with Kovalev in a fight that caused extensive reactions afterwards, so it would be intriguing to see how “GGG” would fair against him.

Who would you predict to come on top if these two titans were to ever scrap? Andre Ward vs GGG in 2017 anyone?

I’d most definitely watch it.
