Hughie Fury on Anthony Joshua Offer: They Offered A Couple Of Hundred Thousand

Hughie Fury on Anthony Joshua fight offer that was recently tabled for the two to have a showdown this December.

Instead Anthony Joshua will now be fighting American Eric Molina on December 10th at the Manchester Arena in the UK.

It was thought for a while that a fight with undefeated heavyweight Hughie Fury would be happening and that Hughie would be the man getting the shot at Joshua’s IBF heavyweight title.

However speaking on Buncey’s Boxing Hour Hughie went into detail as to why the fight was turned down for the time being:

“Eddie Hearn (Joshua’s promoter) offered the fight and to be honest with you they offered a couple of hundred thousand. At the end of the day that’s ridiculous. He’s (Joshua) on about £8 million. What do they think I’m fighting for peanuts here? I’m a young fighter, 20-0 and I’m ready to fight anyone. I’d take the fight no problem but at the end of the day he’s £8 million and I’m fighting for a couple of hundred grand? It’s nothing. I can see fair enough if it was he’s fighting for £800,000 and I’m fighting for £400,000. If it was kind of close but obviously it wasn’t.”

We spoke with Hughie’s trainer and father Peter Fury in recent days told us here that he and team Fury are confident that Hughie will be a world heavyweight champion in 2017.

So no doubt the Joshua fight could potentially be on the table again in the new year provided both men keep winning.

Joshua last competed back in June when he stopped Dominic Breazeale inside the distance at London’s 02 Arena. Fury last fought in April when he outpointed Fred Kassi at the Copper Box Arena in London.

It is now thought that all of Hughie’s previous health and allergy problems have been sorted out – leaving the door open for him to mount a sustained charge at a world title in 2017.
