The Luis Ortiz next fight opponent will have to be a step up from Malik Scott following a rather underwhelming display this weekend in Monaco.
Talented Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz ran out comfortable winner by unanimous decision over American Malik Scott in the end.
However fans will come away from the fight feeling disappointed for the most part.
Scott came to survive in the fight, quite clearly, but it was up to Ortiz to try to force the pace and make the bout a more entertaining affair than what it was.
Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom no doubt will not be happy with the headline fight for his first international boxing card.
Next month he will look to surely match him with someone who will offer more of a test.
Ortiz dropped Scott three times in total in the fight. An odd one at times. It has to be said the Cuban didn’t look at his best. Far from it in fact.
The 37 year old was signed by Matchroom recently and it was hoped that he will be in the mix for a world title fight sooner rather than later but going on last night’s performance, he will have to step it up big time on December 10th on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs John Molina for that to become a reality.

Whoever it is, it will need to be a credible test for the talented undefeated (26-0-22KO) Cuban.
Ortiz has beaten some American known names in the heavyweight division in recent years like Bryant Jennings, Tony Thompson, Monte Barrett and now Malik Scott but in all honesty, now is the time that ‘King Kong’ has to be stepped up to the next level and put in with genuine top heavyweights.
If he is to realize his potential that is.
A potential touted since compiling a now 26 fight undefeated professional record stretching back to 2010 in the pro ranks and before that – a considerable amateur record reading 343-19 in total.
