A mouthwatering Kell Brook Errol Spence Jr weltereweight showdown could be in play for early 2017.
This week it was confirmed that IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook will not be vacating his welterweight title.
After his last fight in September when he dropped a brave 5 round TKO defeat up at middleweight against division destroyer Gennady Golovkin, after the bout Hearn had said that Brook would campaign at super-welterweight (154lbs) in 2017.
There appears to have been a u-turn on that plan at least for the time being. It seems like Brook can still make the welterweight (147lbs) limit okay despite significant struggles in the past to do so.
This has all led to the question of who it will be next up for Brook?
Following Manny Pacquiao’s recent win over Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas Brook called out Pacquiao for a 2017 showdown.
But there is first the issue of Brook’s mandatory defence.
This is against of course Errol Spence Jr. One of the most talented young fighters in world boxing today.
Some had speculated the fight might be too dangerous for Brook with Spence Jr still in the building phase of his career and not as big a name as other fights Brook might be able to secure.
However Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn has let slip to one fan on social media that the fight is actually one Brook has asked him for when asked had Brook informed him to make the Spence Jr fight or not:

You’ve got to respect Brook’s willingness to take on the tough challenges and hard fights. It’s this kind of attitude that makes boxing exciting and secures compelling matchups for the fans.
What a clash of styles as well. Two highly gifted technical boxers with genuine knockout power.
