GGG Promoter: Golovkin To Fight Three Times In 2017

GGG promoter Tom Loeffler says his charge will box regularly next year. Like he has done in recent years.

Negotiations are still ongoing for the fight the boxing world wants to see between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.

Many within the game are hopeful that the bout will be finally put together for 2017.

There has been plenty of back and forth stories from both camps in the media this year surrounding why the fight has not been made yet. In boxing, fights of this magnitude often take a bit of time to make.

I’d be shocked if we didn’t see it next year. Fan demand simply won’t allow that scenario to happen.

In the mean time however there looks to be some intriguing match ups in the early new year in play. The leading candidate for Golovkin next up has been mooted as Danny ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs.

I caught up with GGG promoter Tom Loeffler this week who told me briefly:

“Still working out details for the Daniel Jacobs fight. We are planning for GGG to fight at least three times in 2017 as he has for the last three years as the most active world champion in the sport of boxing.”

2016 will mark the first year since 2012 that Gennady Golovkin has not boxed three times in a calendar year.

Through no fault of his own.

It seems getting fighters to actually step in the ring with him is a challenge to say the least. 2017 will be a much brighter one for him I suspect.

Lets hope the big fights can be made for him and specifically the one everyone is talking about happens against Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez.

It is also important to realize though that Gennady’s next fight as things stand is against Daniel Jacobs, which is the priority at the moment for him to get finalized for his next bout.

The fight represents a coming together of the two best middleweights in the world and Gennady no doubt will be focused on the job at hand with Jacobs being a dangerous puncher.

A cracking fight that I for one am looking forward to when it comes to fruition.
