Freddie Roach Tabs Anthony Joshua As Best Heavyweight In Boxing

Hall of Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach tabs the undefeated IBF heavyweight champion as the number one heavyweight in global boxing at the moment.

Roach is gearing up at the Wild Card Gym for his latest big fight with a fighter of his own this coming weekend when Manny Pacquiao steps in the ring on November 5th with Jessie Vargas for the WBO welterweight title.

Joshua (17-0-17KO) is currently readying himself for a December 10th fight for an opponent expected to be announced next week at some stage.

The front runners at the moment for his next foe look like either David Price or Eric Molina.

Speaking to Fight Hype this week Freddie Roach gave his take on the heavyweight division and who he believes is number one:

“I think Joshua right now is the best heavyweight out there. There’s a couple of names out there. The kid from New Zealand is pretty good, Joseph Parker. You’ve got the crazy one from England (Tyson Fury) that’s pretty good. (Wladimir) Klitschko was one of the best but I think he’s a bit over the hill at this point. At least the heavyweight division right now is making a little bit of noise, more than it did in the past.”

Interestingly as an American, Roach chose to leave current WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder from Alabama out of the above list all together.

A showdown between Joshua and Wilder in 2017 could make for entertaining viewing with the whole US vs UK story line and also due to both men having dynamite knockout power.
