Richard Schaefer Picks Canelo To Beat Golovkin – ‘GGG Is Not Superman’

Ex-Golden Boy Promotions CEO turned Founder of new promotional company Ringstar Sports Richard Scharfer tabs Canelo to beat Golovkin when the pair fight.

It is expected that the long awaited fight between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez will take place most likely in September 2017.

But speaking at an open media scrum this week in the US, promoter Richard Schaefer feels there is no need to wait around to get the fight on.

He made a good point I thought in that even if Canelo did lose to Golovkin that the Mexican boxer’s marketability would not be negatively impacted as some have suggested.

If anything, Canelo would become an even bigger star than he already is in the sport and perhaps even a rematch could happen between the two down the line.

Again, in a potentially even bigger fight pending on how the first one goes.

The bout is probably the only one in American boxing at the moment capable of selling over 1 million pay per view buys and is the one most fans want more than any.

Touching on who he thinks will win when the pair do eventually square off Schaefer said this week:

“No I think Canelo will win that fight. You guys (the media) are underestimating Canelo and I think you are overestimating Golovkin. He can get hit. He can get hit. He’s not like superman. He’s ‘GGG’ – not Superman.”
