Billy Joe Saunders: Gennady Golovkin Thinks He’s Invincible

Billy Joe Saunders spoke today on Gennady Golovkin at his latest press conference announcing his next fight later this month.

The WBO middleweight champion is eyeing a big fight in the new year against one of the other division’s other champions and notably has his eyes on the head honcho of the weight weight class, Gennady Golovkin and touched on his last win against Kell Brook:

“To be fair, I don’t think it does his name any justice fighting a welterweight. Kell Brook is a good fighter. He’s a world class fighter but he’s not a middleweight. I see stuff in that fight that I know I can capitalise on. I think Golovkin think’s he’s invincible, he’s getting very comfortable with people’s words and hearsay now but there’s one thing with me, I would never, ever, ever s*** myself from Golovkin.

He continued:

“He’a a very good fighter, he’s a very good man and he’s a good champion but everybody in my opinion who he’s boxed has been beaten before they get in the ring. That’s when they’ve been beat, cause Kell Brook put up a hell of a fight for five rounds with his belief. So you get somebody mentally headstrong and I know I would be, otherwise I wouldn’t bother taking the fight, I’d cause him a lot of problems.”

‘GGG’ is a man in demand at the moment

Saunders added:

“I wanted the fight in December, I told him. I said I don’t mind going to America or in England. I would love for him to come back over and I’ll give him a chance no problem, that’s what I wanted – in December. But he’s get (Danny) Jacobs now as a mandatory.”

Golovkin’s next fight has not been pencilled in and confirmed just yet, but it is widely expected that it will come against New Yorker Daniel Jacobs this December.

Saunders returns to action against Artur Akavov on the 22nd of this month at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales.
