Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko Fight In Play After Fury Withdrawal

Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko

An Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko showdown for the IBF heavyweight title has come out of left field and could potentially happen.

Did someone say Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko? Yep – it’s come completely out of the blue, but what a fight if it comes off.

Last night it was reported that lineal heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury had withdrawn from his upcoming rematch in Manchester with Klitschko due to being medically unfit to box.

Speculation has swirled online that unfortunately Fury could be very unwell mentally and suffering quite a bit at the moment in this regard.

If this is the case we wish him a speed recovery from whatever illness he is going through at the moment.

Following the news this morning, Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn spoke on Twitter to say he had already contacted team Klitschko enquiring about making the fight with his charge over night:

Reached out to @Klitschko team – we love the fight! @anthonyfjoshua https://t.co/AGWWikjXTe

There’s no denying that it’s a big fight to be made and with Klitschko looking for a replacement opponent and Joshua also as things stand, having no opponent signed just yet, the timing might work out perfect for both parties.

Joshua vs Parker may have to wait a little while longer

During the week it was also noted that the leading contender for Joshua’s next fight was New Zealand’s Joseph Parker, but a Klitschko fight (if it can be made) would surely take precedence to Joshua and his team due to the massive pay per attraction it would be.

It would represent by far his stiffest opposition in his 17 fight pro career however, fraught with risk but then again if he were to win, it would be huge at this point in his prizefighting tenure.

Realistically it shouldn’t be that hard a fight to make either, given the fact promoter Eddie Hearn and Klitschko promoter Tom Loeffler have worked together quite successfully recently in the UK following the making of the Gennady Golovkin and Kell Brook bout in recent times.

This one certainly came out of the blew but don’t be surprised at all if it comes to fruition.
