James DeGale vs Badou Jack Unification Close To Being Made

A James DeGale vs Badou Jack 168lbs unification title fight looks very close to getting done.

Matchroom Sport promoted and Al Haymon advised DeGale last fought in April when he won a unanimous points decision over Rogelio Medina in Washington.

Since then the IBF champion has been linked with various fights – but it now appears that WBC champion Badou Jack is next up.

In theory, it shouldn’t be a hard to make fight at all, given the good relationship that exists between DeGale’s adviser Al Haymon and Jack’s promotional company Mayweather Promotions, and also the new link up between Mayweather Promotions and DeGale’s promoter Matchroom.

Speaking on Twitter today DeGale said:

Stylistically a bout between the two no doubt will be an intriguing technical boxing match, with perhaps the favourite being James DeGale (23-1-14KO) in most bookmakers’ eyes in this point in time.

However, Jack is not to be underestimated by the Englishman and is not a WBC champion for nothing. Jack has recorded a split decision victory over former DeGale conqueror George Groves.

Jack (20-1-2-12KO) also last fought in April where he boxed to a majority draw with Canadian-Romanian boxer Lucian Bute (on the same card as DeGale).

The fight could also mark the start of what was reported recently as a new partnership between promoters Matchroom Sport (headed by Eddie Hearn) in the UK and Mayweather Promotions (fronted by Floyd Mayweather) in the US, where both promoters plan on matching their fighters against one another under the proposed deal.
