Brook Heavier Than GGG On 30 Day Weigh in

Kell Brook heavier than GGG at the 30 day weigh in, showing that the Englishman might not have such a considerable size and strength disadvantage after all in the pair’s upcoming middleweight showdown.

There’s no denying Gennady Golovkin will have a punching power advantage when he defends his middleweight titles against Brook, but many forget that Brook is a massive welterweight who will carry some power himself.

By all accounts Brook has been training for speed and power in preparation for the fight of his life, too, and if he’s to have any chance against the relentless ‘GGG’, he’ll need to get his respect early on to at least try to keep him off in the early rounds.

Speed will obviously be the other big attribute he’ll need to utilise in the bout, being the man moving up from 147lbs and with Golovkin as good as he is, perhaps not being the quickest of middleweights out there.

But by no means is he slow and to date he’s proven that he has all the necessary footwork, ring craft and of course power, to negate any speed disadvantage he may have had in previous bouts.

An already shredded Brook weighed in a considerable eleven pounds more than Golovkin yesterday at the 30 day weigh-ins for the WBC:

If Brook can carry power up to the 160lbs limit and be as explosive as his handlers are saying he will be at the weight while still keeping his speed and timing from welterweight, perhaps there could be some food for thought in the early rounds at least in the bout.

Ultimately it will come down to what kind of game plan Brook produces on the night and how well he can stick to it over twelve rounds against such a dangerous man, with the chances of Brook scoring a stoppage surely almost being next to none.

His best chance one would have thought would be to try to outpoint Golovkin but then again, that’s no mean feat either.

The countdown to Golovkin vs Brook is well and truly on.
