Undefeated Puerto Rican boxer Felix Verdejo was involved in a motorcycle accident in his home country on Sunday evening and has subsequently been hospitalised.
Verdejo (22-0-15KO) was confirmed by local police to have been taken to hospital ,where it is understood that he is currently in a stable condition.
The consequences of the injuries sustained are not known at this point as regards how they will effect his boxing career.
The Top Rank promoted fighter recently became mandatory challenger for the WBO lightweight title held by Manchester’s Terry Flanagan and it was thought that his promoter Bob Arum was trying to secure him a date on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming return to boxing on November 5th.
Breaking reports from Miguel Rivera of Boxing Scene suggest that Verdejo had a helmet on at the time of impact in the accident, and that he suffered a blow to the head and lacerations to various parts of his body.
Verdejo is the current WBO Latino lightweight champion and has built up a considerable, respected reputation within the game since turning professional back in December 2012.
