Carl Frampton Eyes Santa Cruz Rematch

After a thrilling first encounter newly crowned WBA featherweight champion Carl Frampton eyes Santa Cruz rematch for later in the year.

‘The Jackal’ recently won a points decision over previous champion Leo Santa Cruz in what was described by many as a potential fight of the year candidate.

An incredible back and forth battle, that ebbed and flowed in different directions throughout, with some rounds been very hard to score such was the competitive nature of the war.

A rematch only seems fair to both men after such a close fight, that really could have gone either way. And also good news for fans, who will eagerly anticipate something similar to the first encounter’s fireworks.

Speaking to Tim Hobbs of Sky Sports today, Carl Frampton was quoted as saying:

“It looks like there is going to be a rematch and I am happy about that.”

Happy indeed, like boxing fans will be to hear the news.

It is being speculated that the return leg for Frampton vs Santa Cruz II could happen in the month of December, with more than likely the fight taking place in the US.

Frampton’s stock State side will have sky rocketed by the time he appears over there next time, with renowned US publication Ring Magazine placing him in their top 10 pound for pound rankings, like we also do ourselves, after becoming a two weight champion and beating two unbeaten world champions in their backyards this year alone (Scott Quigg in the UK and Santa Cruz in the USA).

If you didn’t get a chance to catch the fight live, here are the highlights of a wonderful scrap via the Showtime YouTube channel:
