Rigondeaux Featherweight Division Move Up On The Cards

A Guillermo Rigondeaux featherweight division appearance could be inevitable if he wants to secure the big fights that many of his rivals seem to have left him in the cold for.

A Rigondeaux featherweight move makes sense now, with the division really on fire at the moment with the four current belt holders of Carl Frampton, Garry Russell Jr, Lee Selby and Oscar Valdez.

You’ve also got Vasyl Lomachenko in and around the weight after moving up to super-featherweight, but he may too return to featherweight one day should a big opportunity arise.

Following Carl Frampton’s recent victory over Leo Santa Cruz at the weekend ‘El Chacal’ was quick to call him outbut now has also acknowledged on Twitter that a move up the weights seems unavoidable:

I have obligations to fulfill now. But my team say I have to move up soon So bcareful what you wish 4. The Real JACKAL is coming. #Rigo126

In some ways you have to feel a little for Riggondeaux, given the fact he will clearly have to move out of his natural weight class of 122lbs being a small guy in a bid to pursue a decent size fight that he has found so hard to come by in recent times (through no fault of his own).

Rumours recently circulated that ‘Rigo’ may in fact box again later this year in the UK after recently beating Jazza Dickens who sustained a broken jaw at the hand of the Cuban, causing the fight to be stopped early.
