Big Time Boxing’s 5th show for the year on August 3rd at Hisense Arena will feature some of Victoria’s best talent; headlined by national icon Danny ‘The Green Machine’ Green (34-5) taking on Victorian former national champion Kane Watts (18-2) in what is Green’s first fight against a fellow Australian since his controversial bout against Paul Briggs in 2010.
A stacked undercard; featuring some of Victoria’s best talent; including the PABA super lightweight champion Czar Amonsot, twin boxing sensations Andrew and Jason Moloney, interim PABA super middleweight champion Jayde Mitchell, the current Victorian Super Lightweight champion Cameron Eyes, as well as the former Australian cruiserweight champion Mark Flanagan, August 3rd is shaping up to be one of the biggest Australian cards of the year.
This make-or-break fight for Green is suspected by many to be the penultimate fight of his career; as he looks at an inevitable showdown against long-time adversary Anthony Mundine (47-7) later on in the year to early next year.
With Green (43) fairly inactive in the sport; fighting only once since his 2012 bout with New Zealander Shane Cameron, certain pundits may believe that he is beyond his prime to be competing with the top-tier fighters.
His opponent Kane Watts (34) is much more active; having fought 10 times in the past 3 years alone.
Melbourne based promoter Brian Amatruda, who has worked with the Mundine camp in the past, and who is promoting the August 3rd bout between Green and Watts believes that Watts is:
“A massive puncher, and Danny has only had 1 fight in 4 years and he’s naturally a lot smaller.”
He added:
“Kane has taken time off work for this fight; usually he’s working full time and trying to get the odd training session in the lead up to a fight. This time he’s been training 3 times a day, and has been training with top light-heavyweight Trent Broadhurst.”
He continued:
“Trent said that Kane has sledgehammers in his fists. But in saying that, Danny is a group 1 fighter. It’s just another day in the office for him. If Kane hits him he’s going to sleep; the trouble is if Kane is going to be able to hit him cleanly. I have it as a 50/50 fight personally.”
He concluded:
“The real question is how far Greeny has stepped back in 4 years. We just don’t know where Danny is. On the last performance, we believe that Kane has got a real chance. We wouldn’t put him in unless he was going in to the fight to win.”
A near sell-out event, Green vs. Watts is anticipated to be the biggest night of Australian boxing for 2016- with some of the states’ best talent supporting the main event; including Czar Amonsot (31-3-3). Amonsot (30) will be facing Dominican Julio de Jesus (24-1) for the vacant WBA-NABA super lightweight title.
Twin brothers Andrew and Jason Moloney face their next test for 2016 with Jason facing his toughest opponent to date; the WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council Bantamweight Champion Jeffrey Francisco (14-1-1), whilst Andrew faces a former opponent of his brother, Markquil Salvana (11-1).
In a rematch that is taking place almost exactly a year after their first clash, Paul Morrison looks to enact revenge against a much-improved Jayde Mitchell (8-1).
Prior to defending his Victorian Super Lightweight Title on August 26th at the Melbourne Pavilion against Andrew Wallace, the current Victorian champion Cameron Eyes (6-0) will look to get in a 4-round fight on the Green undercard against the tough Brent Dames (2-2).
