Golovkin vs Ward Possible For Future Says GGG Trainer

A Golovkin vs Ward fight would likely have to take place around 168lbs (super-middleweight) if it did ever happen.

Gennady Golovkin and Andre Ward are both getting ready for upcoming fights (two weight divisions apart) over the coming months, when Golovkin takes on IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook at middleweight and Ward takes on light-heavyweight kingpin Sergey Kovalev in a highly anticipated 175lbs bout.

Talks in the past of a potential super-fight between the two pound for pound stars Ward and Golovkin taking place at 168lbs had surfaced, but nothing seemed to quite come of them.

However coach to Gennady Golovkin, Abel Sanchez, has told Edward Chaykovsky of Boxing Scene that it certainly a fight they are looking at in the future:

“We wanted to fight him (Golovkin). I think that’s a great fight. We are willing to move up to fight, meaning that if there’s no fight at 160 and there’s a fight that makes sense at 168lbs, then absolutely.”
