Recently crowned WBO super-featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko has decided to give up his other WBO belt that he also holds at featherweight.
Lomachenko moved up to super-featherweight (130lbs) last month and knocked out Roman Martinez at Madison Square Garden to take his record to 6-1-4KO.
The talented Ukrainian has said on Twitter that he now feels there are better opportunities for him at this particular weight class:
My decision between WBO 126lb and 130lb was made.Better opportunities in 130lb.This is what I am keeping it and vacating my 126lb.WBO title

Effectively this means that a fantasy fight between him and super-bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux is now gone, with Rigondeaux never in a million years likely to step up to 130lbs.
At the risk of contradicting the highly skillful Lomachenko, I’m not sure where his idea of bigger fights existing at 130lbs comes from.
Sure there is good fights out there against the likes of Francisco Vargas, Takishi Miura and others, but at featherweight there was surely bigger fights against the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares, Carl Frampton and possibly if Rigondeaux moved up to face him there?
Maybe there is a master plan however to bring Lomachenko through the weights and ultimately up to lightweight, with this move simply being a transition on that journey.
Who knows, but it will be interesting to see who he is matched with next.
