Watch: Inspiring George Foreman Oxford Union Speech
The former Heavyweight Champion of the World was on his travels this week in the UK and recounted all things his life, boxing career and much more.
George Foreman to boxing fans had to have been one of the most exciting heavyweights ever to watch. At his peak an unstoppable powerhouse with only one intention when he stepped into the ring – to seek and destroy.
In many ways parallels can be drawn between that approach and that of fighters of the past like Sonny Liston, Jack Dempsey and Mike Tyson, boxers who were perhaps the most ruthless of all in the ring with savage knockout power but also men that shared extremely difficult upbringings.
Foreman was no different.
A man who came from a large family with little money, early on he turned to stealing in his younger days that almost landed him in trouble with the authorities.
This was to act as the catalyst for his motivation to change direction and focus his enormous strength and energy into something positive.
He went on to have a stellar career both amateur and pro capturing Olympic Gold after very limited experience and then after turning pro, he went on to have one of the most remarkable careers any heavyweight has ever had.
To this day, he still holds the record of of being the oldest heavyweight champion in history (45) which speaks volumes on the man’s spirit and belief.
In this fascinating George Foreman Oxford Union address, the great man also speaks on a wide array of areas in his life from his family, to his business empire with the George Foreman grills, his famous Rumble in the Jungle with Muhammad Ali, how he used fear in the ring to his advantage, to how he turned to God after an extraordinary incident in his dressing room one night after a fight and much more:
