Eddie Hearn: Eubank Wanted Extortionate Ticket Prices For Golovkin Fight
The fallout from the Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook fight announcement is still being felt around the boxing world since it came yesterday.
It came as unexpected news to many fans who believed that Chris Eubank Jr would be taking on Golovkin next up, as opposed to IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook moving up two entire weight divisions to do so.
Speaking shortly after the announcement sent the boxing twitter world crazy, promoter of the event Eddie Hearn told Kugan Cassius of IFL TV one of the main reasons the Eubank Jr fight didn’t happen was that his father Eubank Sr – was simply too hard to work with.
It appears one of the main issues was that Eubank wanted to take operational control of the show and wanted to charge fans a lot of money for entry on the night, according to Hearn:
“They’re not promoters. They didn’t know what they were doing. They wanted extortionate ticket prices and I wasn’t going to have anything to do with that kind of show.”
“They wanted to nearly double the Anthony Joshua ticket prices. I mean, I’m not very popular but could you imagine if I did that?”
“I’m not having a fighter or an ex-boxer tell me who’s going to commentate, or what the ticket prices are going to be or who’s on the undercard and what they’re going to be paid.”
