Confirmed: Crolla vs Linares World Lightweight Title Unification in September

Eddie Hearn kept folks waiting a bit today on Twitter with news of a big announcement to come at around 3pm.

Well, here it is.

Manchester’s WBA world lightweight champion Anthony Crolla will face former Kevin Mitchell conqueror and current WBC (Diamond) 135lbs belt holder Jorge Linares in front of his hometown fans at the Manchester Arena on September 24th.

Hearn confirmed a short time ago on Twitter:

On Sept 24th @MCRArena@ant_crolla will face @JorgeLinares for @WBCBoxing@WBABoxing and @ringmagazine belts RT ????pic.twitter.com/v7O6HWal9B

— Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn) June 14, 2016

Crolla last fought in what was arguably the finest display of his career, when he stopped Ismael Barroso last month in the 7th round via a tactically brilliant display.

Linares is known to UK fight fans well, having stopped Londoner Kevin Mitchell last year and comes into the fight off the back of another stoppage win over Mexican Ivan Cano last October.

The Ring Magazine lightweight title will also be on the line and tickets for the fight are expected to go on sale on Monday June 27th.
