Victoria’s fastest growing super-middleweight prospect, Ryan ‘Bullet’ Breese (9-0), will likely be readying for the biggest opportunity of his career thus far; as he prepares to take on well-known Aussie veteran Luke ‘Razor’ Sharp (13-4-3) for the IBF Pan-Pacific Super Middleweight Title on Team Ellis’ card titled “Once Upon a Time at the Melbourne Pavilion”.
The event will be held on the 26th of August. Breese trains out of the Shadow’s Gym in Eltham by his father Rick Breese, and is one of the countries best super-middleweight prospects.
His bout against Sharp will be a great test for the Victorian to gauge his skill against one of the country’s most seasoned middleweights; who has competed against some real talent; including Blake Caparello, Faris Chevalier and Michael Zerafa.
With Sharp being stopped in his last fight by the current Australian super-middleweight champion Faris Chevalier (10-1), Breese should look to pressure the Perth native, and test his capabilities in what is his hardest fight to date.
Breese is coming off two highly exciting and action-packed victories; in December against leading prospect Jayde Mitchell (7-1) for the WBA Asia Super Middleweight Title, and in April against fellow Victorian Mark Smith (3-2-1).
In his most recent bout, Breese was able to out-work Smith throughout the fight, landing the cleaner shots and allowing his strength to come to play, cruising to a UD victory.
Following his bout with Smith, Breese spoke to Boxing News and Views; assessing his performance and any potential fights for the future.
Your last fight was action-packed from the get-go against fellow Victorian Mark Smith. How did you rate your performance in that fight?
“To be honest I wasn’t overly happy with my last performance, I really battled through it, I actually wanted to pull out about an hour before the fight due to some back issues I was having….obviously taking nothing away from Mark Smith though, he was a quality opponent and made me earn my victory!”
Following his UD victory over Smith, Breese signed a joint management with one of Australia’s leading managers; Mike Altamura, and Victorian boxing promoter Jake Ellis.
With fighters such as Paul Fleming, Luke Jackson and Lenny Zappavigna all under the MJA Boxing stable, Breese is clearly in good hands moving forward in his career.
His new manager Mike Altamura believes that:
“Ryan has a great work ethic, he’s a very dedicated, committed kid, and he possesses the grit to keep improving and advancing in the sport.”
Altamura believes that securing victory on August 26th will be vital for moving forward in Ryan’s career; stating that:
“This is a great opportunity to challenge for a regional title, and start the path towards entering the top 15 world rankings within the IBF.”
Melbourne-based promoter, matchmaker and now manager Jake Ellis, of Team Ellis Boxing Promotions had the following to say on Ryan, and his potential in the sport.
“Breese is very close to having the full package; and becoming one of Australia’s elite fighters. With the super middleweight division being the richest division in the country, Breese is happy to get in there and mix it with Australia’s best. This was shown by stepping up mid-December to fight one of Australia’s leading prospects Jayde Mitchell as a 4-1 underdog.”
He concluded:
