Ricky Burns Creates History By Becoming First Scottish 3 Weight World Champion

After a torrid few years Scotland’s Ricky Burns finally had everything fall into place for him tonight – as he won the vacant WBA world super-lightweight title in style.

The first round saw a terrific start for Scotland’s Ricky Burns who stunned Italian Michele Di Rocco, as he rushed in on Burns from the opening bell.

The second round saw more sharp work from Burns, who couldn’t seem to miss with his ramrod jab while moving on the back foot at times, while also mixing in some very accurate right hands.

Burn’s continued his exhibition of distance control in the third and nailed Di Rocco with a right hand at the bell in the third, dropping the Italian.

As the fight progressed into the mid rounds the class between both combatants continued to be accentuated, with Burn’s seemingly unable to miss on the cruder, but certainly tough Di Rocco.

His chin was amazing at times considering the cleanness and regularity he was been caught with.

The end finally came in the 8th round however, when Burns bludgeoned Di Rocco to the floor who although rose to his feet, was in no position to continue.

A fantastic performance from Ricky Burns.
