The Londoner wasted little time at the weekend in exacting a swift pasting on a horrifically over matched opponent who had primarily operated from Switzerland up that point.
Despite the show being hammered by fans and observers all over the internet, Haye picked up a cool £1 million pay check according to latest reports, for a 2nd round knockout against previously unbeaten Arnold Gjergjaj – that was shown live on free to air Channel Dave.
Haye’s stock within boxing certainly didn’t increase following the weekend, it is reasonable to assume, as it is hard to know what if anything he could have possibly learned from another blow out win since he decided to return to the sport earlier this year.
The main concern with the overall quality of the show and main event last weekend though was that it was shown on free view, meaning people who might not ordinarily have watched boxing would have tuned in to possibly watch the sport for the first time.
The question you have to ask yourself therefore is, if last weekend was your first time watching boxing on TV, would you watch it again?
Haye is set to next fight 44 year old American Shannon Briggs this September at London’s 02 Arena, with Briggs also winning inside the distance on last weekend’s theatrics at the O2 in London.
