Confirmed: George Groves vs Martin Murray is On

It’s an intriguing domestic British super-middleweight scrap that’s been discussed for a while, but the George Groves vs Martin Murray fight is now definitely happening on June 25th.

The date was confirmed by Groves’ promoter Sauerland on Twitter this morning, with the venue being at London’s 02 Arena:

Britain’s newly crowned IBF Heavyweight World Champion Anthony Joshua will make his first defence of his title on the same show against an as of yet to be confirmed opponent.

Groves last boxed at the O2 as it happens earlier this month, when he stopped David Brophy in the 3rd round – so will no doubt be looking forward to going back to the same venue next up.

Murray’s last outing came back in November when he dropped a close points decision loss to Arthur Abraham for the WBO 168lbs title in Germany.

Both men know all too well about the heartache of world title defeat, having both suffered three losses each at every attempt at challenging for a world title thus far.

This will be a make or break fight for both boxers, with the winner knowing he could potentially get one last chance and crack at a world title.
