David Lemieux Says A Canelo Fight With Him Would Be A Fun Fight

Middleweight knockout artist David Lemieux returns to action on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs Amir Khan on May 7th.

His opponent on the massive night of action in Vegas headlined by Canelo vs Khan (who faced off recently with Max Kellerman) – is New Jersey’s Glen Tapia (23-2-15KO).

Speaking with Boxing News and Views, David said:

“It’s been a while since I was back in the ring. This is a great card, and I couldn’t ask for anything more. I have a fan-pleasing style and from what I know about Tapia he is very similar, and we both like to fight. We want to give a great show. My way of fighting, I don’t like to dance around too much, I like to have my hits do the talking.”

Touching on what he thought of Tapia as a fighter, he added:

“Tapia is a good fighter, and has a very come forward type of style. Come fight night, if he is boxing, I will adjust and make my fight. We need to make sure we are prepared for anything that night. He is a tough fighter, I know for sure that when I hit Tapia, it will be a different game. He is not going to expect a fighter like me in the ring. But I do not underestimate him, it will be a dangerous fight.”

Big punching Lemieux (34-3-31KO) is not looking past Tapia, but a rematch with Gennady Golovkin or a fight with Canelo is something that definitely interests him:

“I like to fight the best guys out there, whether that is GGG or Canelo then we will see. I always try to challenge myself to the maximum. Both fighters would be great for me, the best in line to put me on the path to a championship. But for now Glen is my focus. I’ll worry about everyone afterward. Right now I have a good guy in front of me, and I will give fans a great show.”

(Looking back at Golovkin vs Lemieux by HBO):

He continued:

“Canelo is definitely a guy I would like to fight. For sure, it would be a fun fight. GGG had a good night, he is a good fighter. My respect goes to him. Golovkin is a top fighter who knows his craft and I know what I can do . He has more experience and that night he was the better fighter. I was thinking too long during the fight.”

Ahead of his upcoming fight with Glen Tapia, he had this closing message for fight fans:

“Keep your eyes open, it’s going to be a great night of boxing. I am coming for business.”
